Kamer.nl alerts: how to get new rooms by email

Kamer.nl describes itself as a supply-and-demand site for rooms, including student rooms, as well as studios, apartments and houses. Landlords post listings and tenants respond to them.

Landlords can list for free and only pay if they want extra visibility for an ad. As a tenant you have four ways to look:

• Quick search for a fast look at what's available in a city.
• Advanced search to narrow down on rent, type and size.
• Email alerts that send you new offers.
• Posting a request that describes what you're looking for.

Email alerts on Kamer.nl are for registered users. Once you have an account, Kamer.nl sends you new offers by email. There's a setting for how often you receive them, and you can switch alerts off when you no longer need them.

Kamer.nl works with three levels: unregistered visitors, registered users with a free account, and Premium members. Premium is a monthly subscription that you can cancel anytime. According to Kamer.nl, Premium lets you respond to every listing right away.

Kamer.nl updates its terms from time to time. Check the current details on the site before you subscribe to Premium.

1. 1Register for a free account on Kamer.nl.
2. 2Use the search to set the city, your maximum rent and the type of room or home you want.
3. 3Turn on email alerts for new offers.
4. 4Choose how often you want to receive them.
5. 5Switch alerts off once you've found a place, so your inbox stays clean.

Not sure which filters to use? Start a little wider on rent and area for the first week. Once you see what comes in, narrow your search so every email is worth opening.

To react to a listing, click Respond, confirm, and follow the steps to request a viewing. Kamer.nl Premium lets you respond to every listing straight away. Check Kamer.nl for what a free account can do, as this can change.

Kamer.nl also offers a guarantee: a refund of your subscription if you haven't found a home within six months. It comes with conditions, such as at least six consecutive paid months and at least ten responses per month. Read the guarantee page for the current terms.

• Introduce yourself in two or three sentences: study or work, age range, and your move-in date.
• Say why this room suits you, for example the location or the house.
• Suggest a few moments when you can come and see the room.

Your Kamer.nl alerts cover offers on Kamer.nl. Rooms, studios and apartments are also published on other platforms and on makelaars' own websites, and those don't appear in your Kamer.nl emails.

A few habits help you reply early when an alert comes in:

• Set the alert frequency to the most frequent option you can keep up with.
• Turn on phone notifications for the email address you use for alerts.
• Keep a short base text ready and adapt the first line to each room.

Keep your Kamer.nl alerts on. Renthaven works next to them. Renthaven also watches Kamer.nl, plus rental agencies' own websites and other rental sites. It matches new listings to your search profile and alerts you, so you can reply early.

You always reply on the original listing. For a Kamer.nl room, Kamer.nl's own rules for responding still apply. Renthaven doesn't contact landlords for you.

• Draw the exact streets you want on a map, or pick neighbourhoods, a radius or a travel time.
• Filter on maximum rent, rooms, size and property type.
• With Premium, get a push notification and an email the moment a match appears.
• Save reply templates that fill in the address, and invite a search buddy to share your Premium access.
• Start free with one search profile and email alerts with a one-hour delay. Premium costs €15 for one month, less per month on 2- or 3-month plans, cancel anytime.
